Last week SZA dropped ‘Ctrl’ and vocalized all of our inner thoughts. In short, SZA did THAT.
Not only was it just in time for the summer, it was right on time for this chapter of my life.
After speaking to my friend Uche who wrote a text message dissertation on each track and how they resonated with her, then scrolling through some think pieces on social media, I realized just how much everyone could relate. As Uche said in her analysis of life in the lens of SZA’s final track, 20 Something, “All the people… all the memories… I want it forever. This may be the hardest, most pivotal, most significant time in our lives.” Ctrl tells a story of insecurity, growth, love, and the struggles and beauty of going through your 20-somethings.
As a fellow 20-something I feel like I’m in a sort-of limbo with myself. Wanting to be independent and have everything figured out while still not feeling ready for all of the responsibility. This blog is very much so a 20-something navigating life. SZA speaks to a feeling I’m all too familiar with.
Your 20-somethings are about learning your power, learning relationships, learning yourself and unlearning fear and self-doubt. It’s about taking what life has given you and amplifying it. So, to all 20-somethings like me, we may have fears of the unknown, but we can’t forget to stop and enjoy our lives in the process. In SZA’s words, “God bless these 20-somethings…”
