We are in an unprecedented year, with an unprecedented president, which has ushered in unprecedented times. It’s hard to go on any facet of social media, or even walk down the street and not be confronted with some negative information about this political climate (especially since *our President* tweets every 5 seconds). The news has been all-encompassing, intensive and completely exhausting. Constant negative news started to affect my mental health so instead of plugging in, I’m writing to convince you to unplug for a moment, tune out all of the negative noise, and focus on yourself.
Below are two self-care tips I practice but I’d love more contributions! If you have self-care tips you use, big or small, please add them below! I would love to treat this page like a hub people can visit now and in the near future. We’ll get through this together.
Turn off Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and whatever else. We’re so used to being overstimulated but sometimes our brains just need a break.
When I was a kid, I was an avid reader but after college, I completely stopped. I’ve been slowly getting back into it and the last two books I read You’re A Badass and Rich Dad Poor Dad have changed my life!
If you’re not into reading, take a walk, hike, or just sit outside for a while. Lastly, if you aren’t down to fully unplug, turn on a podcast (I have a post of my favorites right here!).
Focus on Yourself
Pamper Yourself. Put on a face mask, pop a bath bomb into the tub, get your playlist popping and RELAX. I know it sounds basic but it works. Once you focus on yourself, you’ll feel refreshed enough to focus on other things. Sometimes it pays to be a little selfish.
Shoutout to Migos practicing self-care!

Something I’m currently working on is meditation. After reading You Are A Badass I decided I’d give it a try. My friend recommended the app Headspace and I’m excited to start!
